Our Facilities

Howell Logistics was one of the first companies in Canada to provide logistical services to business and industry.

Founded in Toronto in 1913 as The Howell Warehouses, the company has evolved to today's Howell Logistics. Changing market demands in the warehousing industry shaped and reshaped the services of Howell in the decades to follow, from multi-storey downtown warehouses of yesterday, to the hi-cube high volume ISO 9002 distribution centres of tomorrow.

Over the years, The Howell Warehouses operated from several sites, including the current home of the Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts in downtown Toronto, an Indian reservation on Georgian Bay, and close to a monastery where the assistance of monks was employed during wartime labour shortages.

Howell's corporate head office distribution centre is a modern, single-story facility of 230,000 square feet, served by 17 truck bays and a private railway siding.

Located in the northwest area of Metropolitan Toronto on Carlingview Drive, Howell is convenient to Lester B. Pearson Airport, Highways 427, 401, 409 and to the network of 400 series highways serving the province of Ontario.

The corporate head office distribution centre has a 24-foot clear height and is constructed of pre-cast concrete comprised of concrete columns and roof (lower insurance cost) and larger (40' x 60') bays. About half the area is racked in narrow aisle configuration, with 48" high, 54" high, and 72" high rack slots. Mezzanines, over the truck unloading areas, further utilize the cube.

To ensure strict adherence to fire safety codes, two flammable liquid rooms (to suit a variety of products and materials) are part of the distribution centre. These are fully racked, sprinklered at every level, diked, and outfitted to modern requirements. The rooms allow Howell to properly accommodate a limited amount of flammables.

A designated climate-controlled room stores graphic arts paper and specialized metal plates, which require temperature and humidity-controlled environments. The entire facility is fully secured with alarms, sprinklers, and 24 hour-a-day monitoring by a certified central station. Other facilities are added as Howell's customers' logistics needs change.
